UPDATE 31 October, 2020 RE: November Lockdown Training

Hello, United Athletics Family!
We are all a bit sad right now about the upcoming lockdown, and thank you for giving us space over the last 24 hours to communicate with you. We hoped we weren’t going to be using these plans!

Your UA Team Coaches will be delivering team training using a mixture of Zoom, athlete training booklets and videos/materials that will be posted on our website specific to each team. Each organised session will last between 30 minutes - 1 hour dependant on usual training time.

This month is very much NOT a break from training altogether.

We will work hard to engage with every athlete during this month and ask families to support their athletes and encourage their participation in sessions. If you need help with this, please let us know.

The costs of running the club are not paused during this unprecedented time. If possible, we kindly ask for athletes to pay 50% of their monthly fees this month as we continue at home training. If this is not possible, please do not pay this month, but please remember that fees will be due for December when the gym re-opens.

Unfortunately the lockdown announcement was made at the end of the month with standing orders for Training Fees set to go out on the 1st. Most accounts will not allow this payment to be stopped, but you may try to do so through your online/phone banking system.

If you are unable to adjust/cancel your standing order for November at this late stage, please email Marie at uamanchestercheer@gmail.com with your bank account details and the amount you would like to be refunded. Refunds will be processed through the end of this week.

Membership fees are currently frozen- all athletes will be re-enrolled in Class4Kids registers automatically.

As the situation develops, we will also adjust our predicted event schedule. We currently do not expect to participate in live events prior to April 2021 but virtual event opportunities may be available.

Any questions you have, please let us know! You can email us at uamanchestercheer@gmail.com or WhatsApp your Team Coaches. Training information and links for Thursday and Sunday teams will be communicated in the next day or two as we get them uploaded and scheduled using your Team WhatsApp Groups.

Trafford School of Gymnastics will officially close on Wednesday this week. All being well, our first session back will be Thursday, 3 December 2020.

Stay safe, UA, and we will see you again very soon.

On 22 October, 2020, DCMS APPROVED the SportCheer England Return to Play Document. All information can be found on the Corona Virus Hub section of their website HERE.
The following is taken from the SportCheer England Website regarding the approval and how it applies to the TIER System in England. As of 23 October, our area is classed as Tier 3.

FROM THE SCUK WEBSITE:
Update 22 October 2020:

We are extremely pleased to let you know that today we received confirmation from the DCMS that our Return to Play document has been approved. This is great news for our cheer and dance community and means that some athletes can at last return to stunting, which is at the very core of our sport.

HOW DO LOCAL COVID ALERT LEVELS (TIERS) AFFECT TRAINING NOW?

At local COVID alert levels medium, high and very high, there are exemptions in place for youth sport, disability sport and sport in an educational setting (includes University students), so these athletes may now train up to Level 1 on the SportCheer England RTP Road Map.

At local COVID alert level medium (Tier 1) all Athletes aged 18 and over who are not exempt (as outlined above) may train up to Level 2 on the SportCheer England RTP Road Map.

At local COVID alert levels high (Tier 2) and very high (Tier 3) all Athletes aged 18 and over who are not exempt (as outlined above) may train up to Level 3 on the SportCheer England RTP Road Map.

As more areas head towards Tier 3 restrictions it is also important to note that guidance under this tier is subject to change, depending on local and national government agreements and that local government can add additional restrictions as has been the case in Lancashire. We would encourage clubs to check local guidelines as these may vary.

You can find further information on how sport is impacted by the Tier system from Sport England here: https://www.sportengland.org/how-we-can-help/coronavirus

NHS Test and Trace

Please read this 23 September 2020 guidance from the NHS regarding Test and Trace. United Athletics uses registers to track contacts but will also have the mandatory QR code posted at the TSG venue for use. This letter was sent to schools to be shared with parents and guardians and outlines WHEN to get a test for your child and WHEN a child should NOT ATTEND schools and clubs. Please remember that if an athlete or coach is undertaking a 14-Day quarantine due to a contact testing positive for COVID-19, they MAY NOT attend training until that period is complete and they have had no symptoms.

Updated 28 August 2020:
We are working hard on our Return To Play Strategy along with TSG. Please see our Document above under "Return To Play Strategy"or request a copy by email at uamanchestercheer@gmail.com.
Our plan is a staged re-entry into full training between mid-September and the beginning of November 2020. Please note that some due dates for fees have been updates as well. Please contact us with any questions. THANK YOU!

 Updated: 1 July 2020

We have been waiting for some key information regarding next season and THANK YOU for your patience as we compile everything. We hope this update touches on everything but if we missed something, please email us at uamanchestercheer@gmail.com

What Will Next Season Look Like? Can Cheer Actually Continue?
The simple answer is, YES. We have been following the re-opening of cheer and gymnastics gyms in New Zealand, Australia and the USA as well as closely following UK guidance. Updates are coming every day and we will continue to plan to compete in the 20-21 Season.

IN THE GYM: Working together with Trafford School of Gymnastics and best practice as laid out by the government and our insurer we will ONLY go back into the gym when it is safe for athletes, families and our volunteer staff. Adjustments to equipment use, traffic flow, class length, parent viewing and cleaning are in planning now and will be adjusted as necessary as we go along.

At the moment, we plan to head back into the gym in mid-late September if allowed.

It is likely that our focus will be on flexibility, cardio, strength, dance and tumbling. Stunting with other athletes and spotted coaching will be the last part of cheer to be added into our training programme. We are working behind the scenes to learn new techniques to keep strength and hand-eye coordination up for our bases and spotters as well as training programmes for flyers to ensure that athletes are receiving a well-rounded and positive team experience which makes our sport so exciting and challenging.

IN THE TEAMS:  One of the last pieces of information we had been waiting on was adjustments to age divisions for the 20-21 season.  SportCheerUK (SCUK) is the governing body of Cheer and Dance in the UK that we and the companies we compete with follow. The Age Grid dictates which categories athletes can compete in. SCUK has just released the 20-21 grid which allows for athletes who would have otherwise “aged out” of their team to stay on one more season. Please note that there have been some changes to the LEVELS in Cheer, so teams may have the same athletes but their LEVEL may change.

COMPETITIONS:
The competition side of our sport has been greatly changed by the situation at hand. It is our intention to remain a Competitive Programme but we must be realistic and accept that more events may be cancelled if “R” numbers go up or if we feel that it is not safe for us as a programme to travel and compete. Also, athletes MUST be physically and mentally prepared to have a positive competitive experience. If Social Distancing is still necessary, this means that stunting and group gatherings will not be possible.

20-21 MEMBERSHIP FEES:
Monthly Training Fees will be payable from the start of the United Athletics 20-21 season by Standing Order. We do not yet have confirmations of a rent-freeze from TSG but hope to keep pricing the SAME as it was for 19-20 which is based on the amount of time spent training.

Training Kit and T-Shirts: We will ask that athletes wear their UA Training Kit and T-Shirts for ALL training sessions. We are aware that some kits and shirts are still outstanding- these have been delayed due to Coronavirus and will be provided still. New pieces will be available for order by a set date for those that have outgrown theirs and we will use the SAME design to save money. This means that old kits can be sold on to other members as well.

Insurance, Music and Choreography: We do not have confirmations yet of any price increases but will work to keep costs down on these items which are included in yearly Membership Fees.

Cheer Shoes: We will have set fitting dates and “Order By” dates for cheer shoes in the autumn and another date just inside the new year. All athletes will need a cheer-specific trainers in the 20-21 season. Options for fit and budget will be available on our website shortly and can be included in Membership Fee payments in the new season.

Competition Uniforms: 20-21 was set to be a New Uniform Year for the programme. We were able to get 3 seasons out of our current design but as part of our rebrand agreement of 2019, we must change our uniforms this year. Part of our survey will be asking about uniform preferences as we head into the season, keeping in mind that we keep designs for 3 seasons each, so decisions made now are not just for this upcoming year.

19-20 Competition Fees:
There were a few events that we were registered for that were then cancelled due to the Coronavirus between March and June 2020. United Athletics had registered and paid for athletes at the end of January 2020 for these events, including purchasing Spectator Tickets for many of you. Please see a breakdown of how these fees are being managed via the independent Event Producers.

  • ICE - Stoke On Trent (All Teams): CREDIT will be given for all registration and spectator ticket fees paid towards this event. UA will NOT receive this money back from the Event Producer.

  • Legacy Rise Up - Leeds (All Teams): CREDIT will be given for all registration and spectator ticket fees paid towards this event. UA will NOT receive this money back from the Event Producer.

  • Live Your Legacy - (Hades, Chaos, Calypso): CREDIT will be given for all registration and spectator ticket fees paid towards this event. UA will NOT receive this money back from the Event Producer.

What Does this Mean for Athletes Next Season?
The CREDIT with the above Event Producers will be used towards registrations at their 20-21 events. This means we plan to compete at at least one ICE and 2 Legacy Events. Depending on the athlete, 2-3 events per athlete have already been paid for in the upcoming season.

If an athlete from Tiny Mania, Youth Hades, Youth Chaos and Junior Calypso do not continue in the 20-21 Season, we will be able to refund these fees at a later date when new or replacement athletes “purchase” these registrations and tickets for the event.

UA Have details of all registered athletes and purchased tickets for these events. If your athlete is NOT returning in the 20-21 season, UA will be able to REFUND these fees by 2 November 2020 to those families. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to request this refund and supply bank details NO LATER THAN 1 November 2020.
FOR REFUNDS PLEASE USE THIS LINK: https://form.jotform.com/201395008709051

Overall:
Although it is a “New Uniform Year” we have decided in the 20-21 Season to NOT purchase Competition Uniforms, and have adjusted fees on 8 October 2020. Your Yearly Membership cost for returning members will also be lower as the bulk of the 20-21 season has already been paid in the 19-20 season. Wherever possible, we will continue to re-use items such as t-shirts, training kit, competition bows, music and choreography.

Our aim will be to keep training fees in line with the 19-20 costs.

We will commit to working hard to provide a well-rounded and positive team cheer experience for every athlete at United Athletics.

Thank you for taking the time to take all of this in and for your continued support! We look forward to seeing you on Zoom this week for our Disney themed Descendent’s Dance and to see which team will come out on top with their JDRF Step Challenge!

Thank you on behalf of all the United Athletics Coaches- Stay safe and we hope to see you soon!
